TRZ Year in Review 2020 - Nectarine/Tangerine

Jord: I wrote this song purely as an attempt to make a Beatles record, though some sections turned out more Hinds than Beatles. When we tracked this, George even used the studio’s Hofner bass guitar like Sir Paul McCartney might. I really like how playful a lot of the lyrics are.

Tangerine takes the playfulness and dials it up to a ten. This alternate “campfire” version of Nectarine boasts everything from gang vocals to melodica to the beeping of the Zebohouse microwave. The crack of George’s beer can makes an appearance as well, which took two takes to capture (George was too nervous on the first take and opened it super slowly, and it just made a frail, squeaky eeeEEEeeeEeh sound).

CB: This one is a lot of fun to play, with the harmonies, and call & response & such. Though if I’m being honest I still sometimes forget when I’m supposed to sing nectarine or tangerine (pick one fruit, jord!!!)

I am just so thankful I got to lay down some filthy melodica on Tangerine. My solo melodica EP “Connor Plays the Hits” coming Fall 2021. The artwork for this one might be my fav of the year, I even like some of the scrapped ideas.
