Here on the official TRZ Blog we’ll talk a little about our relationship with each song, why we chose it, and how the cover came to be.

Jord: Forget everything I said earlier. Forget every song on this list. Forget everything you’ve ever known, and understand this: Striped Sweater from the SpongeBob SquarePants television series is the most-iconic and most-impactful piece of music -- NAY, piece of ART -- ever created. Striped Sweater is an introspective look at the extravagant highs and crushing lows of fame. 

Kicking off the track with a world of confidence-leaning-arrogance, SpongeBob performs the jazzy tune centered in the spotlight, pouring his heart out to onlookers. His playfulness and bubbly demeanor reflect his invincibility in the veneer he’s built around him. In a pivotal moment, the bubbles break into a boil, crashing the song into a minor key amidst a barrage of boos and broken glass. This is SpongeBob’s lowest moment. He learns his self-assurance was misguided and collapses into repressed insecurity. Striped Sweater is absolutely earth-shattering to anyone with life experience, harkening back to the days of youth when you didn’t receive validation when you needed it most.
